Adrián Beltré is an all-time great at 3B and the only question about his candidacy was whether he would sail into the HOM unanimously (answer: almost!).
Joe Mauer makes good for the hometown team, joining the HOM and HOF in the same year - his first try.
Chase Utley's all-around greatness made him an easy choice for the HOM on his first year on the ballot.
George Scales had an unprecedented rise in support from the HOM electorate, and gins entry to the Hall in his 75th year of eligibililty.
My prediction on this election was wrong by the smallest possible margin. While Beltré, Utley, and Mauer were very safe picks for the first three spots, I predicted Buddy Bell to come away with the fourth spot. As it happens, Bell and Scales were tied for fourth, Scales winning the tiebreaker by one point. Scales' ascension was meteoric in a way that no other player's in HOM history has ever been. New MLE estimates seemed so strong that voters decided they could not ignore them, though he had received only 5 total votes in the 74 years of his prior eligibility.
Buddy Bell through Urban Shocker will represent the top 10 returning players in next year's election. 90 different players received votes.
A hearty thank you and congratulations to the 19 voters who submitted ballots for this election. Though the number seems small, the project overcame a massive disruption due to the shuttering of the Baseball Think Factory website that had hosted the past 126 elections. This year's voters:
